EASA  -  Grandfathered approval

Any STC approved or validated by any member state before the establishment of EASA is deemed to be approved under Regulation 1702/2003 Article 2a.* This covers all previous approvals from minor changes to major changes, STCs and complete aircraft, both certifications and validations with the exception of products of the former Soviet Union. It also covers the flight conditions approved for aircraft operating under national Permits to Fly issued before 28 March 2007."

DEUSTCH  Was bedeutet das?

Unter Regulation 1702/2003, genannt "Grandfathered Approval", regelt die europäische Luftfahrtbehörde EASA den Umgang mit Musterzulassungen und ergänzenden Musterzulassungen, die vor dem 28. September 2003, also vor Einrichtung der EASA, von einem Mitgliedstaat erteilt wurden.

Die amerikanische Musterzulassungen der aus den USA stammende Handsteuerung Union Aviation Hand Control für Cessna 172, 177 und andere wurde 1994, die der Handsteuerung Blackwood MK 1 Hand Control für Piper PA 28 (bestimmte Baureihen) wurde 1999 von der Britischen Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in vollem Umfang übernommen, ohne Beschränkung auf einzelne Werknummern.

Diese Steuerungen können somit im Bereich der EASA-Mitgliedsstaaten eingesetzt werden.
Diese Interpretation ist vom Luftfahrt-Bundesamt bestätigt.

ENGLISCH  What does it mean?

The European aviation authority EASA governs the handling of certifications issued by national aviation authorities before 2003 (i.e. before the establishment of EASA) with regulation 1702/2003, the so called "Grandfathered Approval".

The US-American certification of the Union Aviation Hand Control for Cessna 172 (and 177) was approved by the British authorities CAA in 1994, the certification of the Blackwood MK 1 Hand Control for Piper 28 (specified series) in 1999, without any limitation to specific serial numbers of the aircraft.

With that history the Union Aviation HC and the Blackwood MK 1 HC can be used in EASA countries!
That opinion was confirmed by the LBA (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, German Aviation Authority)
